The
Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) is investigating two incidents
involving falling objects on the Stena Don and the Transocean Searcher.
On
30 May, a hydraulic tool fell from its storage position down to the
drill floor on the mobile drilling facility Stena Don, operated by
Stena Drilling. The hydraulic tool, used to handle casing, weighs 790
kg and fell about 5.5 meters. There were no personnel on the drill
floor when the incident occurred.

lazy, hazy days of summer are here. Good news for most, but, if you
work outdoors or on a job that involves hot processes you are at
increased risk of experiencing heat-related health problems. Workers
and their representatives should review workplace health and safety
policies and procedures to ensure these include measures for addressing
heat stress.
Under the general duty provisions of the
Occupational Health and Safety Act employers must take every reasonable
for the protection of a worker, including those who work in hot
environments.

by Resources for the Future made the point that our oil vulnerability
has less to do with the amount we import than simply with the
staggering amounts we consume period. In addition, energy independence,
a favorite rallying cry of politicians, is an unachievable myth.
Energy
independence has been a rhetorical and political rallying cry for
nearly 40 years—President Nixon presided over the massive 1974
Project Independence Report—and it is as flaccid a
concept today as it has been over the decades.
